Panerai Introduces New Luminor Luna Rossa Timepieces for the 38th America’s Cup
Panerai has officially extended its partnership with Luna Rossa for the 38th edition of the America’s Cup, presenting two new limited edition watches that reinforce the brand’s connection to elite sailing and Italian engineering. The Luminor Chrono Flyback PAM01654 and the Luminor PAM01653 represent a continuation of Panerai’s commitment to performance, reliability, and design excellence.
This latest chapter in the collaboration coincides with a historic moment for the America’s Cup, which will be held in Italy for the first time, against the backdrop of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. In this context, Panerai unveils two distinct interpretations of its Luminor collection, each drawing from the aesthetic identity and technical standards of the Luna Rossa sailing team.
Luminor Chrono Flyback Luna Rossa PAM01654
Limited to 150 units, the PAM01654 features a 44 mm titanium case that offers high strength while remaining significantly lighter than steel. This model is powered by the automatic P.9100 calibre, Panerai’s first in-house chronograph movement, equipped with a flyback function and tachymeter scale. The movement includes a vertical clutch and column wheel, twin barrels providing a 72-hour power reserve, and a chronograph mechanism operated via a pusher positioned at 8 o’clock.
The open case back reveals the mechanical architecture, while the grey sandwich dial, accented by red chronograph hands and the Luna Rossa logo, ensures optimal legibility and reinforces the model’s nautical character. The timepiece is paired with a bi-material strap in black rubber and grey textile, complemented by an additional black rubber strap.
Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653
The PAM01653 offers a more understated design, housed in a 44 mm AISI 316LVM stainless steel case. It features a hand-wound P.6000 calibre with a three-day power reserve. The grey sandwich dial includes a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and a red-accented Luna Rossa logo at 6 o’clock. The movement is stabilized by a traversing balance bridge and includes a stop-second function to facilitate precise time-setting.
The watch is delivered with a black and grey bi-material strap marked by the Luna Rossa stripe, along with a second black rubber strap. As with the PAM01654, this model is water-resistant to 10 bar and designed to withstand the demands of both sport and daily wear.
A Legacy of Performance and Partnership
Panerai’s association with competitive sailing dates back to 2017 and has continued to evolve with each America’s Cup campaign. Since becoming the Official Sponsor of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in 2019, the brand has developed a series of technical timepieces inspired by the needs of professional sailors and the rigorous environment of the sport.
Each model introduced under this partnership encapsulates the values Panerai shares with Luna Rossa: a dedication to performance, precision, and the pursuit of excellence. Designed in the Laboratorio di Idee at Panerai’s Neuchâtel Manufacture, the watches undergo extensive testing to meet the highest standards of durability and functionality.
The introduction of the PAM01654 and PAM01653 reinforces Panerai’s role as a technical partner to Luna Rossa and a leader in high-performance watchmaking. Both models reflect a refined synthesis of maritime heritage, Italian aesthetics, and horological innovation. These timepieces stand not only as instruments for sport but also as expressions of modern craftsmanship and enduring partnership.
