THE BIG PILOTÕS WATCH -The Big PilotÕs Watch not only embodies IWC SchaffhausenÕs extensive expertise in engineering professional precision instruments for the cockpit. Thanks to its utilitarian, functional design and numerous special editions, it has also achieved the status of a cultural icon whose appeal extends far beyond the watchmaking industry. This variant is the first Big Pilot's Watch with a dark green dial. The striking hue is inspired by the "racing green" used to paint British racing cars since 1903. The oversized conical crown harks back to a historic observation watch from the 1940s Ð it could be operated by pilots even while wearing the padded gloves of their flight suits. Inside the 46-millimetre stainless steel case, the IWC-manufactured 52110 calibre is at work. This highly precise and robustly built automatic movement features a Pellaton winding system that uses every small movement of the rotor in both directions. It builds up a power reserve of seven days in two barrels. The display at 3 oÕclock informs the wearer how much power remains. A soft-iron inner case effectively shields the movement from the effects of magnetic fields, and the front glass is specially secured against a sudden drop in pressure.
